TMWA Tap Water is Free of Pharmaceuticals
Results are negative for EDCs and Pharmaceuticals
Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) announced Friday that testing found no pharmaceuticals or endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC) in the water supply.
"The data shows that no pharmaceuticals or EDCs were detected in the raw or finished water samples from the Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant," Paul Miller, TMWA's Manager of Operations and Water Quality, said. "None of these compounds were detected in either the water coming into the plant from the Truckee River, or the water going out of the plant that is delivered to our customers."
Tests were conducted by a nationally recognized laboratory, MWH Lab, for analysis per two methods established by the United States Geologic Survey (USGS) to identify pharmaceuticals and EDCs most commonly found in drinking water supplies. The results of these analyses showed that nothing was detected for the 31 compounds tested.
"Although testing for pharmaceutical compounds is not currently required or regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency, TMWA went above and beyond drinking water regulations to check if any pharmaceuticals were in our water," Miller said. "We are happy to report that none of these compounds were found in our tests, which have the ability to measure down to parts per trillion – or one drop in 1,000 Olympic-size swimming pools."
