New Business Engineering

Engineering reviews all water projects within the TMWA service territory.

Projects can include but are not limited to discovery, water system compliance submittals, subdivision, residential single service, commercial development, and retrofit.

Each project is evaluated based upon water demands, location, and existing and proposed water system infrastructure. Included in the analyses will be any fire flow requirements and fire hydrant placement as may be deemed necessary by the fire authority having jurisdiction. The facility analysis is completed with the use of water distribution graphical modeling software to determine main sizing, water pressures within the project and any additional required improvements to the water system.

Engineering Services

Discovery - Level I

At this discovery level, engineering provides a very preliminary review of a potential project. Included will be a review of service territory boundary, water main facilities in the area, and any system issues that may be associated within the encompassed project area.

Discovery - Level II

Engineering provides a more in depth review of a potential project at this discovery level. Assumptions are made for project demand and fire flow requirements. With these assumptions in mind, necessary project water main improvements will be estimated. Project costs will be estimated which may include costs for required water main, pump stations, regulator stations, and water storage tanks.

Water System Compliance with Nevada State Codes and Statutes

TMWA must prepare information for the Washoe County District Health Department regarding the proposed water system and availability of service to planned unit developments and subdivisions of land at the tentative and final map stages. Final subdivisions of land require submittal of final utility construction drawings and an extensive design report that establishes the adequacy of the proposed water system to serve the subdivision.

Subdivision

Subdivision water facility designs are completed by the owner's engineering firms based on information from TMWA engineering. A redline review of the water facility design is completed and returned to the owner's civil engineering firm. Once all corrections have been made, the developer's civil engineer will submit final drawings to TMWA.

Single Service (New Commercial)

Water demand and pressure at the service connection will be reviewed by engineering, as well as pressures in the local area. Engineering will determine water service and meter size. The owner's civil engineer is responsible for producing a water service drawing depicting the water facility services including the size and location of the water main to be tapped, the service lateral, the meter setter, the meter itself, the meter enclosure and the backflow protection device. Also included on this water service drawing must be property boundary lines and public utility easement locations.

Single Service (Residential/Existing Commercial Buildings)

Engineering completes the same service as is provided for New Commercial Services with the addition of offering drafting services for the completion of the water service drawing.
