Water Plant Operator III

As a Water Treatment Operator for Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA), Mike Bryant is a troubleshooter of the water system. He has worked in the water industry since 1989 and has been with TMWA for 5 ½ years. Mike has an associate's degree in Water & Waste Water Treatment and also holds a level three Water Treatment Certification and a level three Water System Distribution Certification from the State of Nevada. TMWA is proud to have the highest number of certified employees of any water company in the state.
Mike's job duties include monitoring water levels, making sure there is enough water pressure to get water distributed to the public and making sure the water is always of the highest quality. If something seems out of place, he determines the problem and then dispatches the proper people to fix it.
"We're like firemen in that when something goes wrong, that's when we jump into action," he said.
And Mike is no stranger to jumping into action. For 23 years he has been with the United States Air Force. He spent four of those years on active duty and the rest in the reserves. In those 23 years he has achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and traveled all over the world doing emergency management.
"I've been to Saudi Arabia, Honduras, Nova Scotia, Jamaica, Alaska, Ecuador and the United Arab Emirates," he said. "I like the camaraderie, which is why I've stayed in the reserves for so long."
Mike also met his wife through the military.
"I met my wife while I was on active duty in England," he said.
The two have been married for 26 years and have a son who is a freshman at Reno High School. In their free time, the family enjoys outdoor activities including taking their boat to Lake Tahoe to go water skiing. Mike also enjoys mountain biking, hiking and backpacking.
