Aging infrastructure - a priority to TMWA and to the budget:
Some of the distribution system, including underground water mains, is now reaching its useful life, over 50 years old. Check out these photos: Construction work on Stead main break, summer 2004 and corroded water main at Coleman Ave. in Reno. Rehabilitation was not a priority in the past, but it is now eminent to TMWA. Approximately $75 million has been spent on repair, rehabilitation and new facilities since the inception of TMWA in 2001. It is the social responsibility of TMWA staff and board to maintain a safe, reliable and economically viable water system to our customers. TMWA's newly adopted facility and capital improvement plans call for an average of $20 million per year for the next 10 years to be spent on repairing, replacing and rehabilitating aging mains and facilities.
