He served as Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1982 to 1986, and on the University of Nevada System Board of Regents from 1979 to 1982. He has over 35 years of entrepreneurial, executive and governmental experience throughout Nevada. He is Chairman of the Board of Cashell Enterprises, a hotel/casino/resort management company. He also owns the Alamo Travel Center and the Topaz Lodge and Casino. In 1967, Bob Cashell and four others purchased a truck stop west of Reno called Bill & Effies. He changed the name of the company to Boomtown, and over the next 18 years oversaw numerous expansions. He sold Boomtown in 1988. He was re-elected in June, 2001 and again in November, 2004. He was elected Mayor Pro Tem by the City Council in July, 2003 and served in that capacity until February 22, 2005 when he was sworn in as Mayor. Mr. Martini is a life-long resident of Sparks and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. He recently retired following a 30-year career in the banking industry. He serves on the Regional Planning Governing Board, Debt Management Commission, Truckee River Flood Control Project Coordinating Committee, and the Joint Sewer Coordinating Committee. He is also active in a number of civic organizations.
